Throughout working on the Web design assignment, I was able to attain some new skills, such as navigating the Weebly site, and using many of its tools. Some tools I didn’t know about were pages, which allow you to make different pages that are easy to navigate to by clicking on the top of the page. I never knew how this worked before. I enjoyed the pre-designed layouts that were available to use as a template for my website. I chose one that was very minimalistic, yet also contained all of the information that I needed. One design principals that I chose to follow were keeping the same font used throughout, which creates simplicity, and makes my website easy to read. Here is the url to my website: https://kessnersecondgradeclass.weebly.com/
In my academic career, I have chosen to not use AI tools, such as ChatGPT. The main reason I don’t use them is I get scared. Even if I use them to come up with ideas, I’m nervous that it will come up as plagiarized, and that can lead to some consequences. I feel like if I don’t use AI, I am able to foster my own creativity and allow myself to fully immerse myself into each assignment, by giving myself time to think about ideas that are original and are true to me and my style. One question that I have with AI would be how are we sure that if we just simply use it for inspiration on how to start an assignment, that it won’t come up as plagiarized? What I mean by this is, if I use an idea that I found online, it’s technically not my own thought that came up with it, and I am using other tools, which is technically plagiarizing in itself. Even if I don’t copy/paste exactly, if I don’t give AI credit then there could be consequences if it fails an originality screening on tools such as TurnItIn.
Again, I don’t really have much experience using AI in class. I steer clear of using ChatGPT for my assignments because, even though it can be used as a tool to help start an assignment, I get joy and satisfaction when I know I did an assignment fully by myself. I feel more proud of myself when I finish an assignment based on my original beliefs and not what AI is telling me to write. Something I learned about AI chatbots this week is that they are much more useful than just simply for schoolwork. They are used in navigation apps, giving online shopping recommendations, social media algorithms and more. I never thought of it in this way, I only thought of AI in a school setting. Some dangers and risks of AI chatbots with my students can be that they are using it to complete their assignments rather than doing it on their own. I will implement AI in my classroom by showing my students what it is, but also showing them algorithms that can detect the software in their work, which will hopefully make them less likely to use it on their assignments and come up with the homework by themselves,
I do believe AI can enhance teachers' productivity. AI can be used for creating lesson plans, homework assignments, class games that can keep students engaged and more. I think I will use this in my classroom when I may be having a hard time coming up with an activity that will keep my students engaged. My main goal as a future teacher would be to make my students passionate about every topic that we go over, and I think that AI can tremendously help with this.
