Blog #7

For this blog, I went to Palm Beach County School District's website and looked around. They have all of the information that someone can want, such as different departments, academic calendars, employment, student registration, family resources and career programs. When I looked at some of the family resources they provide, they have anything from new/returning students, health and safety informaiton, and even a link to a partnership they have for unlimited free 24/7 free tutoring they have! They also have a calendar posted with holidays, breaks, and even registration dates! This is a great site for parents, and students to use if they have any questions or are wondering anything. While I can't find any classroom information, as it is all private to just those students and families, they have different departments listed which I looked through and found the standards that they are hitting, such as elementary education focuses on the B.E.S.T Standards. I will put a link to the site right here: https://www.palmbeachschools.org/SDPBC

I can see myself using technology a lot in my future classroom. I will be using a website so my parents can feel connected, and always caught up to what I'm doing in the classroom. While I love technology, I have to remember that not every family has it at their home. That is why I'm going to use technology in my classroom, but also try and use more traditional, paper/pencil techniques and assignments if I decide to give my students homework. Some productivity tools I plan to use would be Kahoot! which makes learning fun, and Google Classroom. I will use many more, but Google Classroom allows my students to have all the homework, classwork, and notes all organized in one place, so that makes it easy to navigate. I also plan on using Kahoot! to review as it makes a little competition, and makes learning fun.

I was confused at the start of Assignment 2 when I was navigating Canvas, but I ended up figuring it out. I liked how it was separated from the course material, as it had it's own page. If my district is using Canvas, then I will use it, but if it was up to me, I would use Google Classroom. I think this site is super easy to navigate and so easy for little kids to understand. Canvas, in my opinion, is great for college and highschool students, but there's so much going on. With Google Classroom, everything is straight forward, making it much easier for elementary level students to use, and that's the grade level I want to teach.
